Eligibility & Requirements

AM I ELIGIBLE?

The Higher Edge Promise Scholarship is available to all high school graduates from the class of 2019 and beyond. The student must graduate from a Grossmont Union High School District school.

To be eligible, students must meet the following criteria:

 

Requirements during High School:

  • Attend the Higher Edge Promise Orientation
  • Sign the Higher Edge Promise Commitment Form
  • Complete the Higher Edge Promise Career Assessment and build a Career Plan
  • Complete Financial Literacy Workshop
    • (“Bite of Reality” or equivalent)
  • Complete at least 8 hours of Service Learning
    • (i.e. volunteer tutor or other pre-approved activities)
  • Complete at least 1 module of GetWorkerFit each year
  • Participate in the Griffin-Coyote Connection
  • Complete the GCCCD Application
  • Financial Aid forms (FAFSA/Dream Act)
  • College Orientation
  • Career and Education Coaching
  • Attend a GUHSD school for at least two years
  • Obtain at least a 2.0 GPA in high school
  • Attend at least 1 college event
    • (menu of pre-approved programs will be provided)
  • Begin college fall semester after graduation
  • To maintain Higher Edge Scholar status and receive 2nd semester of college for free, students must:

  • Enroll at GCCCD full-time (unless exemption approved from VPSS)
  • Maintain academic progress
  • Meet with a GCCCD counselor
  • Select Career Pathway
  • Develop Education Plan
  • Actively participate in at least 1 student activity
    •            (i.e. engage in student government, college clubs, or athletic programs)
  • Participate in the Higher Edge First Year Experience program
    • Higher Edge Boot Camp
  • Begin college at Grossmont or Cuyamaca within 1 year after high school graduation
  • Enroll at least half-time in college and remain academically eligible
